Toolkit Mood Board
Before deciding on one visual system, each group member was tasked with creating a mood board to help brainstorm potential design directions. For my mood board, I decided on brighter colours with imagery similar to that found in collage art. I found that collage art is often used in political art and advocacy. Due to this connection, it felt appropriate to use the same kind of imagery in a toolkit that would be used to educate people on political terms.
When it came to the colours, I was interested in exploring brighter colours that are often not used in products aimed towards older audiences. Unfortunately products aimed towards these audiences usually lack colour and excitement which was something I wanted to avoid. The use of imagery and colour would also help our toolkit stand out from the others.
Our final logotype included the name of the toolkit itself and our tagline below. “Rethinking Perceptions” encourages the audience to rethink how they view certain terms and their consequences. This idea is reinforced by our tagline which encourages people to have conversations about the gaps in communication when it comes to these topics. The logotype is able to be viewed at both a large and small scale and includes and colour version too.

Toolkit Tagline
Our toolkit served more as a discussion activity rather than a “game”. Instead of creating an instruction sheet, the directions for how to use the toolkit were printed on the back of the box: “Cards will be handed out with certain imagery which will align with cards that other people around the room are holding. As they are placed together, they will show questions and other talking points for your group to discuss.”

Card Deck
To stay within our theme of collage, we decided on a box that would be made of wood. It also contained an acrylic insert that would slide out that held the cards. Once each component was cut out, they could be assembled. The front included our tagline laser engraved onto the box.
